Thanks again, to my Lady C for bringing this to my attention. My undergraduate school, The University of Nevada Las Vegas, is facing severe budget cuts. It’s a shame because the University was moving up in terms of academic respectability. As far as the English dept. was concerned- they had a Nobel prize winner on staff and professors from Harvard, Oxford, etc. The law school was also doing well and moving up the ranks. I feel that they squandered money on buildings instead of saving for the students, professors, the library, etc. Tuition has been going up and now there seems little benefit to increased tuition. You can’t become a premier research institution without funding. They have a new student center, gym, and a variety of other buildings but they don’t mean much if you don’t have the education to match.
To highlight and bring attention to this disaster tombstones are being set up on Nevada campuses: http://www.unlvrebelyell.com/article.php?ID=12581
