Professor Lankes at Syracuse University has been touting 2010 as the year of the Librarian. On his site there are great pieces from his lectures that prove motivating and educational. He is also keynote speaker at this year’s AALL event. This latest news piece in California, regarding librarians and the University system, falls in line with his concept:
““Our librarians play a very important role in helping UC carry out its research and instructional mission, and we are very pleased to have reached an agreement that acknowledges their excellent work,” Dwaine Duckett, UC vice president for systemwide human resources, said in a news release Thursday.” UC, librarians’ union finalize labor contract
Librarians are sometimes viewed as mostly humble and quiet folk. A goal of ours should be to deliver tremendous service so that the community speaks out on our behalf, recognizing our value and dedication to progress. There’s no question about it, the investment a community makes in their librarians pays societal dividends.
