Cities across the US are celebrating human-powered two-wheel transportation for a whole month! Several websites are available for information, bike routes, logging miles, prizes, events, and more:
May is Bike Month is more than just cleaning off the rusty and/or dusty bike and going to work (although that is encouraged), it’s about developing further enjoyment on the bicycle for recreation and/or any task, including running errands. Bike shops are also taking part by helping cyclists with maintenance instruction, basic repair, tire/tube replacement, and more. Calling your local bike shop for help is always a good way to start. Biking a few miles out and loosing air in your tires with no pump or tube in hand is not fun. A local bike shop will make sure your bike is safe and ready for the road.
Also, the benefits to mental and physical health cannot go unmentioned. Here’s a simple article on said benefits: [suite101]. Take advantage of the month and go out, hit the trails, have a picnic, grab a drink or two, visit the library, stop by a friend’s place, etc., and do it all on the comfort of a bicycle.
